Boniface Toroitich Kiprop

Boniface Toroitich Kiprop (born October 12, 1985 in Kwirwot , Kapchorwa District ) is a former Ugandan long-distance runner .

In 2001 he was African junior champion in the 5000 and vice junior champion in the 10,000 meter run and in 2003 junior champion over both distances. From 2002 to 2004 he was on the podium three times in the junior races of the Cross Country World Championships: 2002 in Dublin he won bronze, 2003 in Avenches and 2004 in Brussels silver. Also in 2004 he was junior world champion over 10,000 m.

Although he failed at the World Athletics Championships in 2003 over 5000 m in the run, the following year he was fourth over 10,000 m at the Olympic Games in Athens . Shortly afterwards he improved the junior world record over 10,000 m to 27: 04.00 min.

In 2005 he finished seventh at the World Cross Country Championships, finished eleventh over 5000 and fourth over 10,000 m at the World Championships in Helsinki and improved the Ugandan 10,000 m record to 26: 39.77 min.

He won gold at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne; at the 2007 World Cup in Osaka, he came tenth over the same distance.

Boniface Toroitich Kiprop belongs to the Sebei tribe , who belong to the Kalendjin ethnic group and live on the western slope of Mount Elgon . He has set up a training camp in his home country, to which his friend Moses Ndiema Kipsiro also belongs. Like this he is looked after by the English company PACE Sports Management . Boniface's older brother, Martin Toroitich , is also successful as a long-distance runner.
