Kapchorwa (formerly Sebei ) is a district in eastern Uganda on the border with Kenya . The main town is Kapchorwa of the same name . According to the 2002 census, it had 160,600 inhabitants on an area of 1731.7 km², but the present-day districts of Bukwa and Kween have been spun off from Kapchorwa since then . For 2010, 87,000 residents were estimated in the remaining Kapchorwa.

There are Kupsabiny , Lumasaba and Swahili spoken. Main ethnic groups are the Sabiny (86%) and the Bugisu (10%)
Infibulation , which used to be common in parts of the population , was largely suppressed in the 1980s and 1990s.
geography
The district is mountainous at altitudes of about 1500 to 2200 m above sea level. It is also relatively rainy (900–1600 mm / year) and is traversed by several rivers that have their source in the Mount Elgon massif. Mount Elgon National Park is also located here .
economy
The Sipi waterfalls are of touristic importance . Mainly corn , wheat , beans , sunflowers , yams , peas , potatoes and finger millet are grown, while cash crops are cotton , coffee and wheat. In addition, cattle , goats and sheep are kept.
