Jinja is a district ( district ) in Eastern Uganda with 413,937 inhabitants . Like almost all districts of Uganda , it is named after its capital.

geography

Jinja is bordered by Kayunga and Kamuli Districts to the north, Mukono to the west , Iganga to the east and Mayuge to the southeast. The district consists of eleven sub-districts.

climate

The province of Jinja lies between Lake Kyoga in the north and the large Lake Victoria in the south, with favorable rainfall. Nevertheless, there were pronounced droughts, especially in the 1990s, which reduced the rainfall average for 1994–1999 to just 250.17 mm per year. The decade 2000–2009 brought together the years 2000/2001 and 2003/2004 to an impressive 531.22 millimeters of precipitation annually. The rainiest year was 2002 with 749.58 mm and the driest 2006 with 276.12 mm. The heaviest downpour fell on May 10, 2000 with 192.28 liters per square meter.

The rainy season in Jinja theoretically lasts all year round. Months with particularly little precipitation are usually June and September.
