history

Drawing from 1685

Söhlbach probably emerged from a single farm that was built in the High Middle Ages at the time of land development. Söhlbach (also known as Selbach in the 16th century ) was first mentioned in a Beilsteiner camp book from 1524, at that time there were already three farms there. The farms were Württemberg and Löwenstein fiefdoms , later only Württemberg ones , so that the hamlet was already fully counted as part of Beilstein in a land register entry from 1623. Due to the influences of the Thirty Years' War , the three courtyards merged into one manor estate, which belonged to the Helfenberg fief and was lent to various nobles by Württemberg. The property was sold on June 26, 1726 by the siblings Wilhelm Friedrich Freiherr von Horneck zu Helfenberg and Rosina Freifrau von Degenfeld-Neuhaus (née von Horneck) to the Beilsteiner Vogt Johann Melchior Kaiser. By the subsequent division of the estate, there were again two farms in 1770. At that time, the Söhlbach farm farmers who had to pay compulsory charges already had citizenship in Beilstein. During the implementation of the new administrative structure in the Kingdom of Württemberg , Söhlbach was assigned to the Marbach Oberamt together with Beilstein . Until before the Second World War , Söhlbach was considered wealthy due to the high class of its residents.
