Mayuge is a district in eastern Uganda . The capital of the district is Mayuge .
location
The Mayuge district bordered on the north by the district Iganga , in the northeast on the district Bugiri , on the east by the district Namayingo and the west by the district Jinja . A large part of the area consists of open water from Lake Victoria. It is estimated that this accounts for 77% of the total area of the district. Another 10% of the district are protected national forest reserves. The district has many islands that are currently occupied by permanent and migratory fishermen. These include the islands of Seguti, Dagusi, Vumba, Kaza, Nambuga and Simu. The islands are all easily accessible by motorboat or canoe.

The district was created in 2010 from parts of the Iganga district.

The population is estimated at 565,100 for 2020. In the same year, 7.1 percent of them lived in urban regions and 92.9 percent in rural regions.

economy
Due to the fertile soils and favorable climate, the Mayuge district has great agricultural potential. Due to the fact that open water and natural forest reserves occupy an estimated 87% of the area of the district, the increasing population has put significant pressure on the land. Most of the agriculture in the district is subsistence level. Fishing is another common economic activity practiced in the district.
