Masindi is a district in western Uganda . The capital of the district is Masindi .
location
The Masindi district is bordered to the north by the district Nwoya , on the east by the district Kiryandongo , in the southeast of the district Nakasongola and the district Nakaseke , the south by the district Kyankwanzi , on the southwest by the District Hoima and in the northwest on the district Buliisa .
history
The area was part of the former Bunyoro District . In independence, Bunyoro was a kingdom and Masindi was a unit within the kingdom. When the Ugandan kingdoms were abolished in 1967, Bunyoro became a district. In 1974, Bunyoro was divided into North and South Bunyoro, the latter in turn being divided into the districts of Hoima and Masindi in 1980.
Demographics
The population is estimated to be 340,500 in 2020. In the same year, 32.5 percent of them lived in urban regions and 67.5 percent in rural regions. A significant part of the population belongs to the Bunyoro tribe.

economy
Fish farming is an important economic activity with over 250 ponds in the district. Beekeeping for honey production is increasing. Tourism is also increasing with a steady stream of visitors to Murchison Falls National Park.

The Murchison Falls National Park , including Murchison Falls , is located to 50 percent in the district.
