Kyankwanzi is a district in central Uganda . The capital of the district is Kyankwanzi .
location
The Kyankwanzi district borders in the east on the Nakaseke district via the Mayanja River, the Kiboga district in the southeast, the Mubende and Kibaale districts in the southwest via the Lugogo River and the Hoima and Masindi districts in the north via the Kafu River.
history
The region is historically connected to the National Resistance Movement (NRM), which led the Ugandan Bush War from Kyankwanzi from 1981 to 1986 under the leadership of later President Yoweru Museveni. To this day, the area is considered a stronghold of the NRM.
Today's Kalungu District was created in 2010 from parts of the Kiboga District.
Demographics
The population is estimated at 282,800 for 2020. In the same year, 14.3 percent of them lived in urban regions and 85.7 percent in rural regions. The Kiboga and Kyankwanzi districts are popular destinations for internal migration in Uganda. The government publicly announced in the 1990s the distribution of the vast land resources to attract farmers from across the country. It is now inhabited by the Soga and Masaba peoples in the east and the Kiga and Fumbira peoples from Kigezi in the southwest, as well as the indigenous Baganda, Banyoro and the Ankole ranchers, as well as Congolese refugees. Almost all residents are at least bilingual.
