Lyantonde is a district in south- central Uganda . It is named after the capital of the Lyantonde district, where the district's head office is located.
geography
Lyantonde is bounded by the Sembabule district in the north and northeast , the Lwengo district in the east , the Rakai district in the south and the Kiruhura district in the west . The capital of the district, Lyantonde , is about 78 kilometers west of the city of Masaka , the largest metropolis in the region.
history
The district consists of one county , Kabula County . Prior to 2007 , Kabula County was part of the Rakai District . In 2007, the county was split off from Rakai District and given the status of an autonomous district.
Population development
In 1991 , the national census estimated the population of the district at approximately 53,100. The next census in 2002 estimated the population of Lyantonde district to be around 66,000, with an annual population growth rate of 1.9%. In 2012 , the district population was estimated at around 80,200 inhabitants.
economy
The agriculture is the Haupteineinanhmequelle of livelihood for the population in the district Lyantonde. A variety of crops are grown in the district for both maintenance and economic purposes. Plants grown include: pineapple , vanilla , tobacco , coffee , sweet potatoes , corn , potatoes , beans , tomatoes , bananas , matoke , cassava , millet , rice , passion fruit , mangoes and sorghum .
Cattle are the main livestock in animal breeding , kept by the farmers in Lyantonde. It is estimated that there are 83,700 cattle in the district. Other animals that are bred are goats , sheep , pigs, and poultry .
health
The district is grappling with serious diseases and epidemics. The most common challenges include malaria , AIDS , maternal mortality , child mortality , diarrhea, and respiratory infections . There is only one major hospital in the district , which is located in the capital.
