Rubanda is a district in western Uganda . The capital of the district is Rubanda . The district is high with volcanic mountains and hills separated by V-shaped valleys. Lake Bunyonyi , the second deepest lake in Africa, is located in the district.

location

The Rubanda District is bordered by the Kabale District to the east and north, the Kanungu District to the northwest, the Kisoro District to the west and Rwanda to the south .

history

The Rubanda district was created by the Ugandan parliament and has existed since July 1, 2016. Before that, the district was part of the Kabale district.

Demographics

The population is estimated at 208,500 for 2020. In the same year, 86.5 percent of them lived in urban regions and 13.5 percent in rural regions. The majority of the population is Bakiga , with a smaller number of Batwa .

economy

The district has large deposits of iron ore. Other minerals found are tungsten, gold and peat.
