Soroti is a district ( district ) in Eastern Uganda with about 325,000 inhabitants. Like almost all districts of Uganda , it is named after its capital.

geography

Soroti borders the Amuria , Katakwi , Ngora , Serere and Kaberamaido districts .

climate

Soroti achieved an annual average of 538.16 mm of rain in the years 2000–2009. The wettest year was 2001 with 1279.89 millimeters and the driest year 2003/2004 with 216.18 millimeters. The drought record is 60.71 mm (1999).

Soroti is divided into a total of 10 sub-counties, including three divisions belonging to the city of Soroti. The sub-counties are further divided into 26 parishes (corresponds to German municipalities) and 306 villages.

The population is made up of 48.2% men and 51.2% women.

traffic

The Tororo - Lira highway runs through Soroti , which also passes Mbale and Kumi . There is also an airport in the district capital with a long runway on which jet planes can land. There is a flight school here.
