Grottarossa Circuit
The Grottarossa Circuit was a circuit for the men's road race as part of the cycling competitions at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome . The course was located in the Flaminio district . The team time trial, however, took place on Via Cristoforo Colombo .
The course formed an almost perfect triangle between the start on Via Flaminia , Via Di Grottarossa and the end section on Via Cassia . On the first 6 kilometers there was a steep ascent and some switchbacks to conquer. The next 2.5 km was only slightly uphill. One lap on the Grottarossa Circuit was 14.615 km long and a total of twelve of these laps had to be completed during the race, resulting in a total distance of 194.83 km.
As a precaution, the most dangerous places were protected with bands, this also applied to the supply zones. At the level of the finish line, a platform was set up for representatives from television, as well as photographers and the photo finish.
