The Tokyo Aquatics Center ( Japanese 東京 ア ク ア テ ィ ク ス セ ン タ ー Tōkyō akuatikusu sentā ) is an indoor swimming pool in Mori Beach Park ( 辰 巳 の 森海 浜 公園 ) in Tatsumi in the Kōtō district in southern Tokyo Prefecture . Construction began in April 2017 and was completed in 2020. The total construction costs amounted to ¥ 56.7 billion ( 471 million ). The opening planned for March 22, 2020 has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic .

The swimming pool was built for the 2020 Summer Olympics and can accommodate up to 12,000 spectators. The arena will also be used for swimming competitions at the Paralympic Games .

The indoor swimming pool has two pools and a pool for diving. The roof was built on the ground step by step to a height of 37 meters. It is 160 meters long, 130 meters wide and 10 meters thick. The roof weighs 7,000 tons. In the future, hundreds of competitions at national and international level as well as in the junior sector are to take place in the Aquatics Center every year. Furthermore, the citizens of Tokyo should also be able to use the swimming pool after the games.
