HMS Foxhound
So far, six ships of the Royal Navy have been named HMS Foxhound , named after the English Foxhound :
- The first HMS Foxhound was an 18-gun sloop that was launched in 1806 and sunk in the Atlantic in 1809 .
- The second HMS Foxhound was the French 16-gun sloop Basque , captured in 1809 and sold in 1816.
- The construction of a 10-gun sloop to be named HMS Foxhound was commissioned in 1826. In 1831, however, the order was canceled before it was launched.
- The third HMS Foxhound was a screw gunboat that was launched in 1856 and scrapped in 1866.
- The fourth HMS Foxhound was also a screw gunboat with four guns that was launched in 1877, sold in 1920 and not scrapped until 1975.
- The fifth HMS Foxhound was a destroyer of the Beagle class . Launched in 1909, it was used in World War I and decommissioned in 1921.
- The sixth HMS Foxhound was a 1934 F-Class destroyer . The ship was used in World War II and was given to the Royal Canadian Navy in 1944 , which renamed it HMCS Qu'Appelle .
