Of the 35 finals played so far (1971, 1986 and 1987 not counted, both home and return games considered together), eight went into overtime . Four were then decided in this one. In four finals, extra time was followed by a penalty shoot-out , as it was still a draw after extra time. Three times there was no final: In two cases, one of the two finalists did not play, which automatically made the opponent the winner; once the winner was determined by a league system in round robin format .
In the seasons 1988/89 and 1989/90 of the Asian Club Championship as well as from 2002/03 to 2008 and since 2013, the Champions League winner has been or will be determined in the two legs. A team won the cup twice due to the number of away goals scored (al-Sadd 1989 and Guangzhou Evergrande 2013 ).
A final ended eleven times (in the years with two finals, possibly only the first or second leg) with a result of 1: 0, ten times with 2: 1, seven times with 1: 1, six times with 2: 0 and three times with 3: 1 . Also five times not a single goal could be scored in a final in regular time (maximum 120 minutes).
Clubs from the same country faced each other twice in the final, in 1997 and 2002 , both times from South Korea. Due to the separation of the teams in East and West Asia up to the semi-finals, such a meeting in the final is currently not possible (as of 2020).
Ranking of the venues
The most common venues with four finals so far is the King Fahd Stadium in Riyadh. Bangkok and Riyadh are the cities that have played the most finals, with six games each in at least two different stadiums. The most frequent host so far has been Saudi Arabia with nine finals. In the years with two finals, the first and second legs are counted individually.
