Between 1961 and 1971, what was then Burma had the most successful Asian team in its age group. During this time, the team was Asian champions seven times (1961, 1963, 1964, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1970), won silver once (1965) and bronze twice (1967, 1971) at the continental championships. After 1976, the team could no longer qualify for an Asian championship; Myanmar was only able to take part in the championship again as host in 2014 .
