The 23rd U-19 Asian Football Championship was held in 1985 in Abu Dhabi ( United Arab Emirates ). The tournament started on March 15th and ended on March 22nd . China was the winner . The tournament winner qualified together with the runner-up Saudi Arabia for the 1985 World Junior Championship .

The registered teams identified the four participants in two regional groups. Abu Dhabi was chosen as the final destination .

The four teams played a single round . There were two points for a win and one point for a draw.
course
China and Saudi Arabia both started the tournament with wins. Saudi Arabia was able to win its game higher and thus took over the top of the table. They met on the second day of the match and parted 2-2. The United Arab Emirates were able to preserve their chances by beating Thailand 7-1, while the latter already had no chances. On the final day of the match, China initially defeated Thailand 2-1. In the last tournament game, the Emirates and Saudi Arabia separated 2-2, making China Asian champions.

Result
China became Asian champions for the first time and qualified together with Saudi Arabia for the 1985 World Junior Championship in the Soviet Union. There, the Asian champions closed their preliminary group behind Mexico in second place and made it to the quarter-finals, but were eliminated there against the hosts . Saudi Arabia was eliminated in the preliminary round behind Brazil and Spain in third place.
