The 22nd U-19 Asian Football Championship was held in Bangkok ( Thailand ) in 1982 . The tournament started on December 18th and ended on December 22nd . The winner was South Korea . The tournament winner qualified together with the runner-up China for the Junior World Championship 1983 .

qualification

The registered teams identified the four participants in two regional groups. Bangkok was chosen as the final destination .

The four teams played a single round . There were two points for a win and one point for a draw.

course

Defending champions South Korea started the tournament with a 4-0 win over the United Arab Emirates, while the Chinese had a narrow 2-1 win over Iraq. On the second match day, the winners of the first round separated 1: 1. Iraq kept its chances by beating the Emirates 2-1. The latter were already out of the race after two defeats. On the last day of the match, South Korea beat Iraq 2-1 and finished the tournament as the winner. China finished second with a 1-1 draw against the Emirates.

Result

South Korea became Asian champions for the sixth time and qualified together with China for the Junior World Championship 1983 in Mexico. There the Asian champions finished their preliminary group behind Scotland in second place and qualified for the quarter-finals. After beating Uruguay, South Korea lost to eventual world champions Brazil in the semifinals . In the game for third place, the team lost to Poland . China, on the other hand, was eliminated after Argentina and Czechoslovakia after the preliminary round.
