U-19 soccer Asian Cup 2016 / qualification

The 68 qualifying matches for the 2016 U-19 Asian Cup took place between September 28 and October 6, 2015. 43 of the 47 member associations of the AFC played the remaining 15 starting places for the 2016 Asian Cup among themselves. Bahrain had already qualified as hosts , but still took part in the qualification out of competition.

mode

The 43 teams were divided into ten groups. During the draw, the teams were distinguished according to their geographical location in the west and east zones. The west zone contained the 25 teams of the Central Asian Football Federation , South Asian Football Federation and West Asian Football Federation , the east zone those 18 teams of the ASEAN Football Federation and the East Asian Football Federation . The 25 teams in the west zone were drawn into a group with five teams and four groups with four teams each, the teams in the east zone in two groups with five teams and two groups with four teams.

The teams in each group play a game against every other team in the same group. Each group plays its "tournament" in a host country. After completing all games, the ten group winners and the five best runners-up will qualify for the 2016 finals in Bahrain .

Group draw

The group draw for qualifying took place on June 5, 2015 at the AFC headquarters in Kuala Lumpur . For the draw, the teams were divided into five lottery pots, based on their performance in the 2014 season, with one team from each lottery pot in a group.
