The 24th U-19 Asian Football Championship was held in 1986 in Riyadh ( Saudi Arabia ). The tournament started on December 1st and ended on December 10th . The host was the winner . The tournament winner qualified together with the runner-up Bahrain for the Junior World Championship 1987 .
qualification
The registered teams identified the eight participants in eight regional groups. Riyadh was chosen as the final destination .
mode
The eight teams initially played in two groups of four teams each. There were two points for a win and one point for a draw. The first two in each group qualified for the semi-finals. The two finalists qualified for the Junior World Championship.

Result
Saudi Arabia became Asian champions for the first time and qualified together with Bahrain for the 1987 World Junior Championship in Chile. There, the Asian champions finished their preliminary rounds behind the Federal Republic of Germany , Bulgaria and the United States in last place and thus eliminated just like Bahrain as the group bottom behind the GDR , Scotland and Colombia .
