Karlernst Knatz

Karlernst Knatz , pseudonyms Werle; Peter Squenz, (born June 15, 1882 in Bromberg , German Reich ; died January 19, 1951 in Bad Kreuznach ) was a German writer .

Life

Little biographical information is available about Karlernst Knatz. In 1908/09, Knatz published several books for “Buchverlag fürs Deutsche Haus”, including two volumes of German Humors. He wrote the forewords to new editions of The Sorrows of Young Werther and The Elixirs of the Devil . In 1909 he put together a volume of love poems by Goethe.

In the Weimar Republic he wrote for the Weltbühne under the pseudonym Peter Squenz, he was briefly editor-in-chief of the illustrated magazine Die Woche at the end of 1920 , from 1921 to 1923 editor at Kladderadatsch and at times editor of the Berlin daily newspaper . From the first broadcast in 1924 to 1928, he was in charge of the radio show “Hour with Books” at the radio station in Berlin . Knatz wrote film reviews, for example in 1933 in Hans Hinkel's short-lived magazine Deutsche Kultur-Wacht of the National Socialist League for German Culture .
