The FIFA U-20 World Cup (formerly the FIFA World Youth Championship ), or only briefly U20 World Cup , (English: FIFA U20 World Cup ) called, is the football competition between the best national teams for male soccer players under 20 years.

The tournament takes place every two years and is organized by the world football association FIFA . For many well-known football players and world champions, the Junior World Championship was the stepping stone to the international football stage. For example, players like the Argentines Diego Maradona (1979), Juan Román Riquelme (1997), Javier Saviola (2001), Lionel Messi (2005) and Sergio Agüero (2007), the Brazilians Bebeto (1983) and Adriano (2001) , the Croatians Zvonimir Boban , Davor Šuker and Robert Prosinečki (1987), the Portuguese Luís Figo , Rui Costa and João Pinto (1991), the French David Trezeguet (1997) and Paul Pogba (2013) or the Spaniard Iker Casillas (1999) to attract attention for the first time.

The U-20 World Cup took place in Tunisia in 1977 and was won by the USSR team. The Argentine national team leads the world championship statistics of the U-20 teams with six titles. The 1991 final in Lisbon saw 120,000 spectators; this was the highest number of spectators ever achieved at a U-20 game.
