Nicolás Olivera , full name Andrés Nicolás Olivera , (born May 30, 1978 in Montevideo ) is a former Uruguayan football player .

Career

society

The 1.66 meter tall Olivera was part of the Defensor Sportings squad in the Primera División from 1996 to 1997 . During this period, he is said to have played 46 top division games and scored 16 goals. In 1997 his club won the Torneo Clausura . Then he moved to Europe. There he first joined the FC Valencia , for which he only came to two missions in the 1997/98 season. From 1998 to 2002 he was in the ranks of Sevilla FC, with whom he rose from the Segunda División in 1999 and 2001 . In total, he completed 60 second division games (16 goals) and 54 first division games (ten goals) for Sevilla. This was followed by two more posts in Spain at Real Valladolid and FC Córdoba in the 2002/03 and 2003/04 seasons . At Valladolid, the statistics show him 20 games and four goals. From his debut on August 31, 2003 against Numancia, he played including his last appearance on June 19, 2004 a total of 38 second division games (eight goals) and two encounters (no goal) of the Copa del Rey for Córdoba. The meanwhile return to Defensor with four appearances in the Torneo Clasificatorio 2004 was followed by an engagement with the Spanish first division club Albacete Balompié in the 2004/05 season. The 2005/06 season he played again in the defensors squad. He ran in 23 matches (ten goals) in the Primera División and two games in the Copa Libertadores . Since the Apertura 2006 he played in Mexico for the clubs Necaxa (2006), Atlas Guadalajara (2007), Puebla (2008), Veracruz (2008 to 2009) and again Puebla (2009 to 2010). In mid-December 2010 it was announced that Club America had signed for the 2011 season starting in January. There he made eleven league appearances (one goal) and played in seven matches (no goal) of the Copa Libertadores. In the 2011/12 season he put on the Defensors jersey again. His record shows six Apertura and 15 Clausura missions with a total of eleven goals scored. Other sources have only made 20 league appearances this entire season. He also met twice in six Copa Libertadores games. In 2012, he went abroad again. For Correcaminos , he scored three times in the opposing goal in 14 appearances in the second division. In the 2013 Clausura, after returning to the Uruguayan capital, he then appeared for Defensor eight times (three goals). He also has a Copa Libertadores game on his books. In the 2013/14 season he was with the Montevideans 24 times in the league and scored ten times. He also appeared in nine games of the 2014 Copa Libertadores and scored five goals. With Defensor he was eliminated there only in the semifinals against Club Nacional . In the 2014/15 season he was used 17 times in the Primera División and scored three goals. During the 2015/16 season, he made 22 premier league appearances (three goals) and four games (one goal) in the 2015 Copa Sudamericana . In the 2016 season he was used in 13 top division games (two goals). He then ended his active career.

National team

Olivera was part of the Uruguayan squad at the U-20 South American Championship in Chile in 1997 . With this team, he finished fourth there. During the tournament he was used by coach Víctor Púa seven times (one goal). In the same year he was also vice world champion. He himself was awarded the Golden Ball for the best player in the World Cup. In the Uruguayan U-23 team, he played in seven international matches (two goals) at the "Torneo Preolímpico" in Brazil in 2000. Olivera was also a member of Uruguay's senior team , for which he made 28 international matches between December 13, 1997 and June 2, 2006. His goal account shows eight international matches. He made his debut at the 1997 FIFA Confederations Cup when he started the group stage in a 2-0 win over the United Arab Emirates and scored the opening goal. Uruguay finished fourth in the tournament. Olivera also took part in the 2002 World Cup with Uruguay . The national coach did not use Olivera's services in this competition.
