Beginnings
Orsolini comes from the youth department of Ascoli Calcio in his hometown. After strong performances for the Primavera, he made his debut for the first team on March 26, 2016 in the 1: 2 home defeat to LR Vicenza Virtus . In the following season 2016/17 he became a regular player on the right wing of the second division and scored his first goal on October 15, 2016 in the 1: 4 home defeat against Hellas Verona . On January 30, 2017, the first division club Juventus Turin acquired the transfer rights to Orsolini for a transfer fee of 6 million euros, who remained on loan in Ascoli for the rest of the season. At the end of the season, he had eight goals and six assists in 41 league appearances.
Via Bergamo to Bologna
For the season 2017/18 Orsolini moved in a lending transaction to Atalanta in the Serie A . The original two-year loan contract was terminated after an unsuccessful six months and only eight short assignments.
He returned to Piedmont and joined FC Bologna on loan for a year and a half at the end of January 2018 . The Rossoblu also secured a purchase option. In Bologna, too, it was only used irregularly in the remainder of the 2017/18 season . Orsolini failed to score in 15 league games this season. It was only in the following season 2018/19 that he made his breakthrough at FC Bologna and was now able to attract attention in the top Italian division. He scored his first goal of the season on September 30, 2018 in a 2-1 home win against Udinese Calcio . His lending club fought the entire season for relegation, which could only be avoided in the crucial phase of the season. A decisive factor for this were the important goals Orsolini, who scored six goals in the last eleven league games and assisted two more. His eight goals and five assists in 35 appearances ultimately brought Bologna 10th place in the final table.
For the 2019/20 season, FC Bologna finally activated the agreed purchase option in the amount of 15 million euros and provided it with a three-year contract.
National team
Riccardo Orsolini took part with the Italian U-20 national team at the U-20 World Cup 2017 in South Korea , where you could reach 3rd place. With five goals he was the top scorer in this tournament and received the Golden Shoe.
His debut for the U21 was Orsolini under Luigi Di Biagio on 1 September 2017 of 0: 3 friendly defeat against the Spanish selection . He played a total of 15 international matches for the U21s until June, in which he scored three times.
On November 18, 2019 Orsolini made his debut for the A-selection in a 9-1 home win against Armenia in the 2020 European Football Championship / qualification for the 2020 European Championship . He was swapped for Nicolò Barella at half-time by coach Roberto Mancini and scored one goal and set up two more.
