Career

Jon appears internationally as a player in the sports group Amrokgang , the club of the Ministry of State Security.

In 2005 Jon, who was mainly used on the defensive flanks, led the U-17 selection as captain at the U-17 World Cup in Peru and failed with the team only after extra time in the quarter-finals against Brazil. In 2006, he won the U-19 Asian Cup with the U-20 team under captain Kim Kum-il . Because of this success, he took part in the U-20 World Cup in Canada in 2007 . He played as a left-back during the tournament, but in a group with the eventual finalists Czech Republic and Argentina two points were not enough to advance.

Jon made his debut in the North Korean national team in 2007 in the two first-round games of the World Cup qualifying against Mongolia. In 2008 he took part in the AFC Challenge Cup as a regular player , but failed with the "B selection" due to a 0-1 defeat in the semi-finals and thus missed the possible qualification for the 2011 Asian Cup . In 2010 he was part of the squad when he won the AFC Challenge Cup , and as a supplementary player he made three appearances. In the final, he was substituted on when the score was 0-1, after defender Ryang Myong-il was sent off a few minutes earlier . The North Korean team managed to equalize through Ryang Yong-gi and finally prevailed on penalties and qualified for the 2011 Asian Cup thanks to this success.
