José Antonio Nogueira (born November 26, 1965 in São Paulo , Brazil ) is a Brazilian football coach. Since April 2018 he has been coaching the national soccer team of Pakistan .
Career
Nogueira started his coaching career in São Paulo, where he trained his first professional team with the Nacional Atlético Clube from 1992 to 1994. In 1994 he moved to Japan , where he was a coach at Nagoya Gakuin University for two years . His next coaching station was the Club Sport Emelec , an Ecuadorian first division club from Guayaquil .
In 2003 he first coached a national team in Sierra Leone . The most important goal in this function was the qualification for the Africa Cup 2004 in Tunisia . However, this was just missed after Sierra Leone only finished second behind Morocco in qualifying in a group with Morocco , Gabon and Equatorial Guinea and was eliminated. As a result, Nogueira was released.
He then returned to his native Brazil and coached the São Bernardo Futebol Clube from São Paulo, before becoming national coach again in 2006, this time in Guinea-Bissau . After stints in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ahli and again in Brazil with ABC Natal , he became national coach of St. Kitts and Nevis in 2011 , but the engagement only lasted a few months. After further stints in Brazil, he became national coach of Pakistan in April 2018, where he signed a three-year contract.
