Africa Cup 2004 / qualification

The qualification for the Africa Cup 2004 took place between September 2002 and September 2003. 49 national teams of the African Football Association took part in the qualification phase. They were drawn into thirteen groups, ten of them with four teams and three with three teams. In addition to hosts Tunisia and defending champion Cameroon, the thirteen group winners and the best-placed runner-up of the groups of four qualified for the Africa Cup.

Qualified teams

The following 16 teams qualified for the 2004 Africa Cup in Tunisia.

•  Tunisia as a host
•  Cameroon as defending champion
•  Nigeria as the winner of Group 1.
•  Guinea wins Group 2.
•  Benin as the winner of group 3.
•  Burkina Faso as the winner of group 4.
•  Kenya as the winner of group 5.
•  Mali as the winner of group 6.
•  Morocco wins Group 7.
•  Senegal as the winner of group 8.
•  Democratic Republic of the Congo wins Group 9.
•  Egypt won group 10.
•  South Africa wins Group 11.
•  Algeria as the winner of group 12.
•  Rwanda as the winner of group 13.
•  Zimbabwe the best runner-up (group 6)
