Johnny Fischer

John "Johnny" Fischer (* 3. May 1930 in Vienna as Johann Ernst Fischer) is an Austrian bassist of the Modern Jazz , singer and music producer.

Live and act

Fischer, who came to Great Britain in 1939 with the last Kindertransport - he is of Jewish origin - grew up in England. He came back to Austria in 1946. Together with Uzzi Förster he learned the harpsichord , studied from 1947 to 1950 at the Vienna Conservatory and from 1951 appeared as a professional musician in American clubs in Austria, from 1952 in Germany and then switched to the double bass . From 1954 to 1955 he played with Helmut Weglinski , from 1954 to 1956 with Hans Koller . In 1956 he worked for Südwestfunk in Baden-Baden and from 1957 to 1961 for Kurt Edelhagen at WDR . He also recorded with Attila Zoller (1956), Heinz Kretschmar, Paul Kuhn , Ulrik Neumann and Jonny Teupen . After 1962 he worked mainly as a studio musician and arranger in Cologne. He wrote a guide to improvisation for bass (Schott, Mainz, 1967). In the late 1960s he was successful as Andy Fisher with his bizarre, German-English songs in the German-speaking world. In the 1970s he was the manager of Konstantin Wecker and also arranged some of his recordings. He also produced albums by Jürgen von der Lippe and Hanns Dieter Hüsch .
