Helmut Weglinski
Helmut Weglinski (born January 4, 1925 in Frankfurt am Main , † 1996 in Cologne ) was a German jazz and entertainment musician ( violin ). In the 1950s, according to Jürgen Wölfer , the swing and pop violinist was considered the successor to Helmut Zacharias , who had turned away from jazz.
Weglinski studied at the Frankfurt University of Music in the master class of Alma Moodie . At the age of fifteen he played in the Rhein-Mainisches Landesorchester Frankfurt under Hermann Abendroth and on Radio Frankfurt . After the Second World War he turned to jazz . He appeared at the German Jazz Festival in 1955 and 1956 and played with Paul Kuhn as well as Albert and Emil Mangelsdorff . He led his own sextet, which included Flip Gehring and Bora Roković and which opened up to modern jazz . He also accompanied his ensemble Caterina Valente on tours. Since he couldn't make a living from jazz, he and his band performed light music on cruises ; then he played in ensembles of the Hessischer Rundfunk and appeared in the program Zum Blauen Bock . He made recordings for Amiga , EMI and Philips .
