Barotac Nuevo ( Filipino : Bayan ng Barotac Nuevo , Hiligaynon : Sangguniang Bayan Barotac Nuevo ) is a metropolitan area municipality in the province Iloilo on the island of Panay in the Philippines . It has 54,146 inhabitants (August 1, 2015 census) who live in 29 barangays . It belongs to the third income bracket of the communities in the Philippines and is described as partially urban .
Barotac Nuevo is located on the eastern coast of Panay Island, on the Guimaras Strait , opposite the Negros Island . The capital of the province, Iloilo City , is about 29 km southwest of the municipality and can be reached from there by bus or jeepney . The neighboring communities are Pototan in the west, Dumangas in the south, Anilao and Dingle in the north. The topography of the municipality is determined by flat lands and a hilly landscape in the interior of the island.
