Barotac Viejo ( Filipino : Bayan ng Barotac Viejo , Hiligaynon : Sangguniang Bayan Barotac Viejo ) is a metropolitan area municipality in the province Iloilo on the island of Panay in the Philippines . It has 45,808 inhabitants (August 1, 2015 census) who live in 26 barangays . It belongs to the third income bracket of the communities in the Philippines and is described as village .
Barotac Viejo is on the eastern coast of Panay Island, on the Guimaras Strait , opposite the Negros Island . The capital of the province, Iloilo City , is about 55 km southwest of the municipality and can be reached from there by bus or jeepney . The neighboring communities are Banate in the west, Lemery and San Rafael in the north, Ajuy in the east. The topography of the municipality is determined by flat lands and a hilly landscape in the interior of the island.
