Janiuay ( Filipino : Bayan ng Janiuay , Hiligaynon : Sangguniang Bayan Janiuay ) is a metropolitan area municipality in the province Iloilo on the island of Panay in the Philippines . It has 63,905 inhabitants (August 1, 2015 census) who live in 60 barangays . It belongs to the first income bracket of the communities in the Philippines and is described as partially urban .
Janiuay is inland on the island of Panay, the capital of the province, Iloilo City , is about 31 km southeast of the municipality and can be reached from there by bus or jeepney . The neighboring communities are Valderrama in the west, Badiangan and Mina in the east, Lambunao in the north and Maasin in the south. The topography of the municipality is determined by a gently rolling landscape that merges into the Central Panay Mountains in the west.
