Miagao ( Filipino : Bayan ng Miagao , Hiligaynon : Sangguniang Bayan Miagao ) is a metropolitan area municipality in the province Iloilo on the island of Panay in the Philippines . It has 67,565 inhabitants (August 1, 2015 census) who live in 119 barangays . It belongs to the first income bracket of the communities in the Philippines and is described as partially urban .
geography
Miagao is located on the south coast of Panay Island, on the coast of the Panay Gulf . The capital of the province, Iloilo City , is about 40 km northeast of the municipality and can be reached from there by bus or jeepney via the coastal road . The neighboring communities are San Joaquin in the west, Igbaras in the northeast and Guimbal in the east. The topography of the municipality is determined by a gently rolling landscape that merges into the Central Panay Mountains in the north .
Attractions
In the parish is the Church of Santo Tomas de Villanueva, which since 1993 together three other churches, under the title Baroque Churches in the Philippines , have been part of the UNESCO World Heritage .
