The " Caserne Jeanne-d'Arc " is a double barracks in Reims . Built in 1893, it consisted of two properties, the cavalry barracks "Quartier Jeanne-d'Arc" and "Quartier Louvois "

On April 18, 1893, the 14th e régiment de dragons was quartered here in the "Quartier Louvois" , which was replaced on 22nd September 1898 by the 22nd e régiment de dragons .

On May 8, 1893, the 16 e régiment de dragons moved into the barracks , where it remained together with the “22 e régiment de dragons” until August 1914.

In September and October 1895 the cavalry brigade in the barracks was affected by a typhus epidemic , the cause of which Doctor Henri Henrot tried to find out.

In 1930 the 18th e régiment de dragons was moved to the barracks and in January 1933 the "4 e Groupe d'auto-mitrailleuses" followed. The latter was incorporated into the " 4 e Régiment de cuirassiers " in July 1936 .

Together with the "18e régiment de dragons" it formed the "1 re sivision légère mécanique" (1st Light Mechanized Division) which left Reims on September 12, 1939 to go to the Second World War .

The 9th e régiment de hussard was stationed here between 1962 and 1964 . In 1964, the "18 e régiment de dragons" returned to Reims and was housed together with the "1 er bataillon de chasseurs à pied" in the Caserne Jeanne d'Arc. Two squadrons of the Dragoons were not here, however, but in Mourmelon-le-Petit in the "Zurich quarter".

The "1 he Battalion de Chasseurs à pied" was in the barracks in garrison since 1956th This was a mechanized battalion (battalion chasseurs de portes) equipped with armored AMX-10P , hunting tanks of the type AMX-13 and armored transport vehicles VAB . The association belonged to the "10 e division blindée" (10th armored division) in the "1 er corps d'armée" (1st army corps) of the French armed forces .

After the dissolution of the "1 er groupe de chasseurs" in 1990, the barracks were given up as troop accommodation. It had been vacant since 1992, although part of it was still designated as military property. Work then began to modernize the Gendarmerie nationale des Départements . It has been used accordingly since 2006. A part of the barracks with the size of two hectares was converted into a school sports facility for the “Lycée d'enseignement professionnel Yser” and the “Collège Robert Schuman ”.
