The 9 e régiment de hussards was a cavalry unit of the French army that was set up during the French Revolution . It does not currently exist.

First World War

During the mobilization on August 2, 1914, the regiment was stationed in Chambéry , it belonged to the 5th Cuirassier Brigade at the disposal of the 14th Army Corps and was structured as follows:

After the end of the First Battle of the Marne , it was used on the Somme to protect a gap in the front between the 14th and 4th Army Corps during the race to the sea .

1914

August 2, 1914: Division as a reconnaissance regiment for the 14th Army Corps. Participation in the border battles in the Vosges . On August 6th, he was transported to the Arches - Bruyères region, where he was charged with liaison tasks between the 14th and 21st Army Corps. The escadrons were assigned to the 27th and 28th Infantry Divisions and were used on the heights of the Vosges and then in the basin of Saint-Dié . 1916

After the beginning of the Battle of Verdun , the hussars were commanded to the Verdun area, where they arrived on February 29 and were charged with regulating troop movements and securing the rear areas until December. The 5th and 6th Escadron were disbanded.

1917

On May 28, there was another transport to the 14th Army Corps on the Somme. Participation in the Battle of the Aisne with the capture of the Ferme d'Hurtebise and Troyon. After a short rest period, the 9 e RH was used in the battle of Malmaison from August 16 to October 23 . In November the regiment withdrew from the front and was billeted in the Villers-Cotterêts region .

1918

In January the regiment was with the 14th Army Corps in Alsace in the Dannemarie region . The major German offensive ( Operation Michael ) forced the 14th AK to be moved back to the Somme. The 9 e RH fought in the battle of Mons , on Kemmelberg near Loker (Heuvelland) and then west of Reims near Bligny (Marne) , Sarcy , Nanteuil-la-Fosse and Aubérive .

The regiment's replacement depot was located in the Saint-Ruthin quarter in Chambéry throughout the war.

Second World War

There is no information about the possible missions during the brief re-establishment in 1944.

Algerian war

In 1956 it was set up again for use in the Algerian War . Fight in the province of Oran and Ouarsenis . After returning in 1962, garrisons in Coulommiers , Provins and Sourdun were occupied until they were dissolved in 1979 .

Awards

The regiment was awarded the Croix de guerre 1914/1918 with four palm branches for four honorable mention in the army report. The flag ribbon is decorated with the Fourragère of the Médaille militaire .

For use in the Battle of Solferino , the regiment was awarded the gold medal of the city of Milan in 1906.
