The 5 e régiment de chasseurs à cheval (5th regiment of hunters on horseback) was a unit of the light cavalry of the French army . The regiment was formed in 1675 and dissolved in Périgeux in 1994.
Lineup
At the beginning there was a dragoon corps, which, together with a corps of irregulars , was commanded as a cavalry corps in 1675 by a Mr. d'Audigeau (or possibly d'Audijos) from Gascony . On March 13, 1676 he set up a regular dragoon regiment from it.
Disagreed with the disciplinary measures taken by War Minister Louvois , Monsieur d'Audigeau left his regiment in Sicily. It was then given to Alexis Bidal, baron d'Asfeld, who had to cleanse it of unpleasant elements and reorganize it. From 1675 to 1787 it bore the different names of the respective regiment owners.

Should the Mestre de camp be a person of the high nobility who had no interest in leading the regiment (e.g. the king or queen), the command was given to the Mestre de camp lieutenant (or Mestre de camp en second). The name Colonel was used from 1791 to 1793 and from 1803, from 1793 to 1803 the name Chef de brigade was used . From 1791 there were no more regimental owners.
