The Ouarsenis or Ouanchariss ( Arabic الونشريس), El Ouanchariss , Berber : Ouarsnis are a 150 km long mountain range of the Tell Atlas in northwestern Algeria . Quarsenis means something like "nothing more" in the Berber language.

Geographical location

The mountain range extends about 80 km south of the Mediterranean coast. The Kef Sidi Amar with 1985 m, which is about 33 km north-north-west of Tissemsilt , is traditionally regarded as the highest point . Other sources come to lower values ​​between 1963 m and 1957 m. Another summit worth mentioning is the 1850 m high "Achaoun". The mountain range extends from the north-east along the Cheliff to l'Oued Mina in the west and to the Sersou plateau in the south. The mountains are characterized by extensive cedar forests . Agriculture is also of regional importance. The provinces of Medea , Ain Defla , Tissemsilt , Chlef and Tiaret are tangent .

population

The residents are mainly of Berber origin. Many descend from the Banu Ifran or Magrawa , both tribes that can be traced back to the Zanata .
