The second South Asian Football Championship , officially the South Asian Gold Cup 1995 , took place from March 25 to April 2, 1995 in Colombo , Sri Lanka . Five South Asian nations took part in the tournament. South Asian champions in 1995 were hosted by Sri Lanka with a 1-0 win over defending champions India . A game for 3rd place was not played.
It was the first SAFF Cup, the winner of which was determined by a knockout system. The Maldives were drawn into group B, but withdrew their application. Bangladesh took part in the tournament for the first time.
The Sri Lankan capital Colombo was chosen as the venue for the 1995 South Asian Cup . It was the country's first tournament to be held. The Sugathadasa Stadium was the venue for all tournament games .
