Life

The son of the upholsterer Carl Brix studied German literature and medicine at the end of the 1920s before he decided to work as an actor. Brix took private acting lessons and began his artistic career in 1930 at the Stadttheater in his hometown of Innsbruck. In the next two decades there were engagements in Prague (at the Deutsches Theater), Vienna (Volkstheater), Berlin (Die Komödie) and Munich (the Kammerspiele).

In 1939 he was won over for the film and made his film debut in a Terra-Film production. In the same year he became known for the role of the young Emperor Franz-Joseph of Austria in the historical drama with an anti-Habsburg message " Maria Ilona ". Brix remained a busy film actor throughout World War II before he returned to Innsbruck in 1945. There he worked for the literature department when Radio Tirol was founded. In 1963, Brix was given its management, which he did not relinquish until ten years later, when he reached the retirement age of 65. Hermann Brix was instrumental in building up the radio play at Radio Tirol and brought u. a. Friedrich Dürrenmatt to Innsbruck as a radio play author. From 1966 Brix held the chair for drama at the University of Innsbruck and headed the studio stage. Axel Corti , Ernst Grissemann and Volkmar Parschalk were among his students .

During this time, Hermann Brix often staged plays at the Tiroler Landestheater. Until 1979 he could be seen reading the radio series " Hömbergs Kaleidophon ". After 1947, Brix only returned to the camera once, with the leading role in the everyday story " Glück aus Ohio ". The American actor with German roots Bruce Bennett ("Tarzan") was originally also called Hermann Brix.
