The M * League Division 1 is the top division of the Northern Mariana Islands Football Association , the national football association of the Northern Mariana Islands .

history

With the founding of the football association on the Northern Mariana Islands in 2005, an official football championship was held. In March 2012, the Asian Football Confederation announced that clubs of the Northern Mariana Islands Football Association may participate in the AFC Challenge Cup and the AFC President's Cup if the specified criteria are met. However, no Northern Mariana Islands club has yet been registered for these competitions.

The first edition of the league was originally supposed to start on November 5, 2005 with four participating teams, but it was canceled. The 2006/07 season then began on December 9, 2006 with nine clubs. In 2008, a spring round was held for the first time between January and March and an autumn round until November.
