The West Bank Premier League is one of the top two leagues in the Palestinian Football Association . The other league is the Gaza Strip Premier League . The Palestinian clubs have a long history going back to the 1930s. However, most of the teams died due to political unrest and the resulting geographical reduction of the country. Over the years the league has been played in many formats. It has been running in its current form since 2008.
mode
The original format of the league consisted of 12 teams which each played against each other twice over 22 match days. The two teams with the least points at the end of the season were relegated to the second division and the team with the most points became champions. The season then consisted of only 10 teams, whereby this number should increase again to 12 teams in the following season. This number has been retained so far.
