Hatta in the Hajar Mountains

Hatta ( Arabic حتا, DMG Ḥattā ) is an exclave of the Emirate of Dubai , is located in the Hajjar Mountains on the border with Oman and is about 100 kilometers southeast of the city of Dubai . In 2016, Hatta had a population of 12,200. The area of the exclave is 140 km².

Hatta extends far apart in the plain as far as the slopes of the Hajjar. Nearby is the Hatta dam with its reservoir. Due to the altitude, the climate in Hatta is more moderate than in Dubai.

In Hatta there are three sheikh palaces, seven mosques, three schools, two police stations, two clinics, two gas stations, two banks, the Hatta Fort Hotel, a post office, a fire station, city administration buildings, a public library, a radio tower and a soccer field.

A little higher on a hill is the old village of Hatta. It is dominated by two mighty watchtowers from the 1880s. Here in the old village is also the Juma Mosque, built in 1780, the oldest building in Hatta, a fort from 1896 and around 30 mud houses. These buildings have been reconstructed as a so-called Heritage Village for tourism; scenes from everyday historical life are shown. The traditional water supply ( Falaj system) was also restored .
