Marcel Schuon (born April 28, 1985 in Freudenstadt ) is a German soccer player .

Career

Schuon began his career at TSV Haiterbach before joining the youth team at VfB Stuttgart in 1996 at the age of eleven . In the summer of 2003 he was appointed to the VfB reserve team, for which he played 85 regional league games and scored three goals. During his time at VfB Stuttgart, he made 39 appearances for various junior national teams and took part in the U-17 European football championship in 2002 and the junior football world championship in 2005 . In the 2007/08 season, Schuon finally moved to VfL Osnabrück in the 2nd Bundesliga . On August 10, 2007 he made his debut in the game against SC Freiburg . For the 2009/10 season, the defender moved to the third division for SV Sandhausen.

Involvement in the 2009 betting scandal

In the course of the soccer betting scandal in 2009 , a house search was carried out at Schuon. He later admitted that he had agreed to manipulate the game against FC Augsburg , but did not intervene decisively in the game. After that, his contract was terminated without notice by SV Sandhausen. In August 2010, the DFB sports court retroactively issued a suspension of two years and nine months against Schuon for “unsportsmanlike conduct”. The DFB control committee and the sports court saw it as proven that Schuon had agreed to manipulate the game in four games, but no actual manipulations could be proven. He was banned until August 31, 2012. In December 2009, the Bochum District Court sentenced him to a prison sentence of ten months on probation.

After his suspension expired, Schuon joined the Württemberg regional league club VfL Nagold , where his cousin Nils was already playing. After only six competitive games for VfL, Marcel Schuon suffered a cruciate ligament rupture in September 2012 , which resulted in a one-year break. With VfL Nagold, he was promoted to the Württemberg Association League in 2013, where Schuon made his comeback in a league game in October 2013. After another cruciate ligament operation and cartilage damage in his knee, he was threatened with the end of his career in 2016. For the 2016/17 season he took over as coach at his youth club, the district league club TSV Haiterbach.
