Reus [ rɛws ] is a city in southern Catalonia . With 104,373 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019), it is the second largest city in southern Catalonia and also the capital of the Comarca Baix Camp . Reus is located in the neighborhood of the city of Tarragona , about 10 km from the Costa Daurada on the Mediterranean Sea.
etymology
The origin of the city's name is much debated. For some, the name is derived from the Latin word that was used to refer to prisoners. The currently most widely accepted thesis is that the name is of Celtic origin.
Demographics
Since 1950 Reus has seen strong growth from 35,000 to 100,000 inhabitants. The immigrants, mainly from Morocco, have increased the population. Foreigners make up 8% of the population. The citizens of the city are called Reusencs , although they are popularly known as ganxets .

The airport , located between Tarragona and Reus, belongs to Reus and has been increasingly used by low-cost airlines since 2002 .

The most important popular festivals are the Festa Major de Sant Pere (June 24th to 29th) and the Festes de Misericòrdia (September 25th).
