Rosa Molas y Vallvé (born March 24, 1815 in Reus , Spain , † June 11, 1876 in Tortosa ) was a Spanish sister and founder of the Hermanas de Nuestra Señora de la Consolación (German: Servants of Our Lady of Consolation). In 2010 the order had 16 branches on four continents. Rosa Molas y Vallvé is venerated as a saint by the Roman Catholic Church .

life and work

Rosa Molas y Vallvé was already interested in charity as a child, but after her mother's death she initially took care of the family's household. She joined a nursing community in Reus, but left after disputes. In 1857 she founded the congregation of the "Hermanas de Nuestra Señora de la Consolación" in Tortosa with like-minded women . Care for the sick and children should be a special concern of the community. Numerous branches developed from the community in the following years.

Even during her lifetime, Rosa Molas y Vallvé was known for her tireless commitment and deep piety. She was beatified on May 8, 1977 by Pope Paul VI. , the canonization by John Paul II on December 11th, 1988. The liturgical feast day of the founder of the order is June 11th.
