Álvaro Gutiérrez , full name Álvaro Gutiérrez Felscher , (born July 21, 1968 in Montevideo ) is a former Uruguayan football player and coach.

Player career

Depending on the sources, 1.78 meters or 1.90 meters tall midfielder Gutiérrez began his professional career in 1987 at Club Atlético Bella Vista in the Primera División . He played there until 1991 and was part of the team when he won the first Uruguayan championship in the club's history in 1990. That year he moved to Peñarol within Montevideo . At the Aurinegros he was also part of the squad in 1992. Then from 1992 to 1995 a career station was recorded at Nacional Montevideo . A move to Europe followed. In Spain he was active for Real Valladolid in the 1995/96, 1996/97 and 1997/98 seasons , played 66 league games in the Spanish Primera División and scored one goal. In the 1997/98 season, however, he ran nine times in the first half of 1998 for the second division club Rayo Vallecano (no goal). In the 1998/99 season he returned to Real Valladolid, but was used only once in the Cup on February 3, 1999 and played his only league game on May 30, 1999 against Betis Sevilla . In 1999 he was again on the Bella Vistas squad. In 2000 he was at least in the Apertura in the squad of the Uruguayan first division club Liverpool Montevideo . In the 2000/01 season there are ten second division games for him from September 3, 2000 to December 17, 2000 at the Spanish club Sporting Gijón .

National team

Gutiérrez was a member of the senior national team of Uruguay , for which he completed 38 internationals from his debut on May 7, 1991 to his last appearance on August 20, 1997, according to the RSSSF . He scored an international goal. Gutiérrez was on the Celeste squad at the Copa America in Chile in 1991 , in Ecuador in 1993 and in Uruguay in 1995 . In 1995 he won the tournament with the team.

Coaching career

After his active career, Gutiérrez also worked as a coach. At least at the beginning of 2006 he was in charge of the Rampla Juniors and in the 2007/08 season the second division club Atlético Rentistas . Gutiérrez worked at least in 2014 as the coach of the team Nacional Montevideos in the Tercera División. After Gerardo Pelusso's resignation , he initially took over the head coach role of the professional team on an interim basis from April 28, 2014 until the end of the Clausura 2014. Even beyond the end of the season, he then took on the role of head coach in the following 2014/15 season and was with the Team Uruguayan champions. At the end of June 2015, he left Nacional and signed a contract as a coach for two seasons with the Saudi Arabian club al-Shabab . After the 4-0 defeat against Al Hilal in the semifinals of the Crown Prince's Cup and six defeats from the last seven games, he was dismissed at the beginning of January 2016 after a total of ten wins, three draws and six defeats at the Saudi club.
