Stefan Schmidt (born May 12, 1989 in Schwandorf ) is a former German basketball player . The 2.07-meter man was a junior national player and played for Bayreuth and Trier in the basketball league .

career

Schmidt took part in the European Championship in Spain with the German U18 national team in 2007 and made his debut for Falke Nürnberg in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA during the 2007/08 season . At the same time he played for the Franconian Witcher in the youth basketball league . In summer 2009 he was part of the German squad at the U20 European Championship in Greece.

For the 2009/10 season he went to the BBC Bayreuth , with whom he was promoted to the basketball league in his first year . In 2011 he played with the German national student team at the Universiade in China and came in sixth. For Bayreuth Schmidt completed 71 and for TBB Trier , which he joined in 2013, 66 games in the top German division. Schmidt also took part in the Universiade with the German selection in 2013, and the team came twelfth at the games in Kazan .

After the bankruptcy of TBB Trier, he moved north to the Hamburg Towers in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA in summer 2015 . In March 2016, he tore a cruciate ligament that forced him to take a month-long break from playing. His best season in Hamburg was 2015/16 when he averaged 6.4 points and 6.1 rebounds. During the 2016/17 game year, he was not used in any game as a result of the cruciate ligament tear.

During the summer break of 2018 he left the Hanseatic League and joined the third division team Itzehoe Eagles . In 2019/20 he and Itzehoe won the ProB-Nord championship of the 2019/20 season, which was canceled in mid-March 2020 due to the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. Schmidt was involved in this success with an average of 8.5 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. In the final stages of his playing career, he took up a position in the real estate industry, in summer 2020 he retired from competitive sports.
