This time Deportivo Mandiyú was his employer. 1987 to 1988 he was again in the ranks of Nacional Montevideo. In 1988 he had two more posts at River Plate Montevideo and in Costa Rica at Cartaginés . In 1990 he was again listed as a player at Bella Vista and won the Uruguayan championship with Tam. Coaching

Ribas successfully completed his coaching education at the age of 19 in 1977, which, according to his own statement, made him the youngest Uruguayan coach in the country's football history. After his career as a player, Ribas then took up his first position as a coach at Sud América in 1993 and worked as such at the Uruguayan capital club until 1995. This was followed by positions at Nacional de Asunción (1996) and from 1997 to 1998 at Bella Vista . From 1999 to 2001 he coached Club Atlético Peñarol and won the national championship there in the first year. From 2002 to 2003 he worked as a coach at Liverpool Montevideo . In 2004 he took over the training management at the Italian second division club AC Venice , which he said he was in charge of until 2005. From 2006 to 2007 he was a coach at Juventud . From January 2008 to June 2008 he was the national coach of Oman . The following year he took over the Club Atlético Peñarol again. In the same year, a job as a coach at Centro Atlético Fénix for Ribas is recorded. Deportivo Maldonado from 2010 to 2012 (other sources mention the period 2012 to 2013) and Bella Vista in 2013 (other sources: 2013 to 2014) were his next stations as trainers. In mid-2014 he took over the coaching position and the position of general manager at Fútbol Club Cartagena . In December 2014 he was followed by Manuel Palomeque as a coach for the Spaniards .

In 2015 he worked for the La Manga Club as an official representative. He has been coach at Lincoln Red Imps FC from Gibraltar since 2016 and won the championship title in the local Premier League that year , which gave the club the opportunity to qualify for the following season in the Champions League .

At the end of June 2018, Ribas was introduced as the new national coach of the Gibraltar national football team. In October 2018, he led Gibraltar in a game of the 2018/19 UEFA Nations League against Armenia to the first competitive and away win in the history of the Gibraltar national football team.

Ribas is a polarizing figure in the Uruguayan coaching business. He repeatedly attracted attention through outbursts of temper and disputes. During his time with Peñarol this culminated on November 26, 2000 in a mass brawl he instigated among the players after a Clásico . This earned him an arrest and a night in Montevideo Central Prison.
