Renato Augusto , full name Renato Soares de Oliveira Augusto (born February 8, 1988 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a Brazilian soccer player .

Club career

CR Flamengo

Renato Augusto played in the youth of Flamengo Rio de Janeiro and started his professional career there in 2005. The following season he won his first national title when he won the Copa do Brasil , the Brazilian Cup, with Flamengo . In 2007 and 2008 the state championship of Rio de Janeiro was won. In 2007 he was about to move to the Italian first division club US Palermo . Other European clubs also showed interest in the offensive specialist.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen

On July 10, 2008, the German Bundesliga club Bayer 04 Leverkusen announced the change of Renato Augustos. The parties have agreed not to disclose the transfer fee. The Brazilian played his first competitive game for the club in the first round game of the DFB Cup on August 10, 2008 against Rot-Weiß Oberhausen , in which he scored the interim 1-0 for Leverkusen with a long shot in the 69th minute. Renato Augusto's first appearance in the Bundesliga came just under a week later on August 16, 2008 in the 3-2 defeat against Borussia Dortmund . In 33 of the 34 season games, he was used in his first year and scored two goals and prepared eight more goals. In addition, he and his team reached the final of the DFB Cup, which was lost 1-0 to Werder Bremen . In this competition, Renato Augusto was able to score two goals and prepare another hit in six games.

The 2009/10 season was, however, a "lost season", he had to fight with knee and calf problems and did not find his form. In total, he only had 17 missions, mostly not for the full playing time. Then there was the game against Babelsberg 03 in the 2009/10 DFB Cup . This season Renato Augusto did not play in the position of playmaker in attacking midfield as usual , but in a rather unusual position as a right winger . In the Bundesliga he went goalless for the first time and could only prepare four goals.

Renato Augusto in the game against Metalist Kharkiv (2011)

In the 2010/11 season he was able to stabilize his performance again and contributed with seven goals and six assists in 27 games to reach the runner-up. Only in autumn did he miss a few competitive games due to various minor injuries. As in the previous season, Renato Augusto was deployed flexibly in midfield, so the Brazilian also acted as a left winger, but increasingly played in his favored position on the ten . In the DFB Cup , however, Leverkusen ended up in the second main round. Renato Augusto was only used in the first main round game, where he scored one goal and three assists in the 1:11 win against FK Pirmasens . Renato Augusto played for the first time in the UEFA Europa League , where he made his debut on December 16, 2010 against Atlético Madrid . In the knockout phase they won against the Ukrainian club Metalist Kharkiv 4-0 and 2-0; Renato Augusto played in both games and set up a goal. In this competition, however, they were eliminated in the round of 16 against Villarreal .

In the 2011/12 season Renato Augusto launched his team very bad: they lost against in the first round Dynamo Dresden from. The first game in the Bundesliga was also lost 2-0 against FSV Mainz 05 . It wasn't until September 9, 2011 that Renato Augusto made his first two assists of the season in a 4-1 win against FC Augsburg on matchday five. Four days later, he made his UEFA Champions League debut in a 2-0 defeat by Chelsea . As of mid-October 2011, he was absent for the rest of the year due to knee surgery. He celebrated his comeback on February 4, 2011, on matchday 20, in a 2-2 draw against VfB Stuttgart . In the historic defeat in the last 16 of the Champions League against FC Barcelona (1: 3 and 1: 7), he was in the starting line-up in both games. He missed the last four games in the Bundesliga due to a muscle strain. Overall, this season was also negative, so he remained goalless as in the 2009/10 season and only played 18 games in the Bundesliga.

Renato Augusto remained loyal to his injuries in the 2012/13 season . In the first half of the season he only played six games in the Bundesliga - not a single one over the full playing time. In the DFB Cup, he was completely without use. Only in the Europa League did he get an acceptable playing time by playing five out of six possible games. Across all competitions, he could neither score nor prepare one.

Corinthians São Paulo

After sustained injuries and because he could hardly play, Augusto moved back to Brazil to Corinthians São Paulo for 3.5 million euros during the winter break . On July 7, 2013 he played for the first time for Corinthians in the Campeonato Brasileiro de Futebol . At the end of the 2013 season , there were 15 games, one goal and one assist. In the 2014 season , Renato Augusto became a regular player in his club with 30 league games and was able to prepare eight other goals in addition to one of his own goals.
