Rafael Galhardo de Souza , also Rafael Galhardo , (born October 30, 1991 in Nova Friburgo ) is a Brazilian football player . He is used in the position of a right defender . Alternatively, he also plays as a right midfielder .

Career

Rafael Galhardo started his career in the junior departments of Friburguense AC and Flamengo Rio de Janeiro . Although still a member of the youth squad, he played at Flamengo from the 2009 season in the professional squad from time to time. In the course of winning the fifth championship title , he played three games in 2009 . He made his debut as a substitute in the Série A on August 20, 2009 at home against Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte . As a result, it stayed with sporadic missions. In 2011 he played for Flamengo for the first time in an international club competition. In the second round of the 2011 Copa Sudamericana , his club faced Atletico Paranaense away from home on August 25 . In the encounter Galhardo was in the starting line-up and was substituted for Welinton after the half-time break.

After the end of the state championship in Rio de Janeiro in 2012, he moved to FC Santos in May of that year in exchange with Ibson . Just two days later, Galhardo competed for Santos for the first time. On the first day of the 2012 championship , Santos played away against EC Bahia on May 20, 2019 . Galhardo was in the starting line-up and was substituted on for Messias Maranhão in the 65th minute . In his second game a week later at home against Sport Recife , Galhardo was injured in the 28th minute and was out for five months. Due to the injury, he missed participation in the 2012 Olympic Games for which he was nominated. Galhardo made his first appearance for Santos on October 26, 2012, the 33rd matchday of the championship. In the home game against Náutico Capibaribe he played 90 minutes. In 2013 he played 21 competitive games (one goal) for Santos, but was then awarded for 2014.

Galhardo came to EC Bahia . The loan was limited to two years. With the club he won the Bahia State Championship in 2014 . At Bahia, Galhardo was injured several times and came across seven games (two goals) throughout the year. The loan was ended early at the end of the year.

Galhardo continued to play no role in Santos' squad planning. He was therefore loaned to Gremio Porto Alegre . Galhardo was able to establish himself in the club on the position of right defender. At the end of the 2015 championship , the team of the season was elected.

Galhardo's achievements prompted RSC Anderlecht from Belgium to sign him. In early January 2016, the club announced its commitment. The transfer fee was one million euros. Galhardo played his only game for the club on January 29, 2016. On the 24th matchday of the 2015/16 season , his club met VV St. Truiden away from home . In that game he was in the starting line-up.

In July 2016 Galhardo was loaned to Atlético Paranaense in his home country . At Atlético, too, the player had injuries and was unable to get beyond the role of a reserve player. By the end of the season in early December 2016, he made seven appearances, six of them in the 2016 championship and one in the 2016 Copa do Brasil (no goals). After injuring himself again in early January when he was not playing, Galhardo canceled his contract with Atlético and returned to Anderlecht. On July 11th of that year it became known that Anderlecht and Galhardo had terminated their employment contract by mutual agreement.

Galhardo's next stop was back in Brazil. Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte announced his signing on July 22nd . By the end of the 2017 championship , Galhardo only came off the bench two times. In the course of the fifth win of the Copa do Brasil by Cruzeiro 2017 , he was not in the squad in any game. After the end of the season in early December, his contract expired and was no longer renewed.

Galhardo went to CR Vasco da Gama in Rio de Janeiro . At the beginning of January 2018 he signed a new contract with the club. The contract ran until January 2021. In 2018, Galhardo played 22 games in four competitions, but failed to score one goal. At the start of the 2019 season, it was not taken into account. In March of that year he was then loaned to his old place of work Grêmio until the end of the year. With the club he won the state championship of Rio Grande do Sul in April .

National team

In 2011 Galhardo was part of the Brazilian U20 national team, which won the 2011 U-20 South American Football Championship (seven games) and the 2011 U-20 World Cup (two games). He stepped on the side of players like Neymar , Philippe Coutinho , Lucas Moura and Danilo . At the World Cup he was mainly used as a midfielder.
