Airton Ribeiro Santos (born February 21, 1990 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a Brazilian footballer who is currently under contract with Botafogo FR .

Career

In clubs

Airton started his career in 2007 in the youth of Nova Iguaçu FC and moved from there to Mesquita FC . In 2008 he then moved to the first division club Flamengo Rio de Janeiro , where he ended his youth career and advanced to the professional squad. There he played two years as a regular player and won the state championship of Rio de Janeiro twice in a row . During the winter transfer period in Europe, the Brazilian moved to Portugal’s record champions Benfica Lisbon for a transfer fee of 2.6 million euros .

For the 2011/12 season, Airton moved to Brazil on loan to CR Flamengo. The contract was originally valid until the end of the 2011/12 season, but was extended by one year in May 2012.

On March 1, 2013 Airton moved on loan until the end of the season to Brazil to SC Internacional in Porto Alegre .

After returning to Benfica, he went on loan to Botafogo FR in January 2014 until the end of the season. In September 2015, Airton was permanently taken over by Botafogo after being without a club in Portugal at the end of the 2014/15 season. In early 2018, he went to local rivals Fluminense Rio de Janeiro for free .
